Oct. 29 final Saturday market for 2011

Plans for a winter market get composted

A decision has been made by the Attleboro Farmers Market, Inc. not to proceed with their plans for a Winter Market. The plan was to hold the market in the Ezekiel Bates Masonic Lodge, across the street from our current Saturday location, during the months of November and December.

The Attleboro Farmers Market would like to thank the Ezekiel Bates Masonic Lodge for their generousity in offering the Attleboro Farmers Market space for the Winter Market. The members of the lodge were there with the support the Attleboro Farmers Market needed when they were looking for space. The decision was made because of circumstances that were beyond the Market’s control.

Plans are being put together to start the 2012 Attleboro Farmers Market beginning in Spring and continuing through the Fall months.

The market this year was a tremendous success. Heather Porreca, Attleboro Farmers Market Manager, said, “Each week our goals for vendor participation and the amount of patrons were exceeded.” “A lot of hard work was put in by all the volunteers and vendors,” she continued, “We were pleasantly surprised by support of the local community.”

One of the surprises that happened during this year’s  market is that there are a few small businesses that are using it like an incubator. They used the market to build their customer base with a plan to grow their business with the possibility of opening a storefront shop. These vendors were farmers, a beekeeper, coffee roaster and artists, and all local. It did not occur to the AFM that this would happen.

We would like to thank all the vendors and civic groups who sold their produce, products at the Attleboro Farmers Market, Inc. in 2011. It is because of these vendors and groups that made the market the success it has become.

The Market at the 74 North Main St. will continue at the regular Saturday schedule from 8 to 1 through October 29.
